EV compounds

Compounds for EV parts

Compounds for EV parts, from battery to inlet

Glass-filled PA66 and PA6, PBT, PP, PC/ABS and flame-retardant grades for battery, high-voltage and charging parts. Each recommendation starts from the load, heat and insulation your part must handle.

What changes in an EV part

An electric drivetrain moves the hard requirements away from fuel and engine heat and towards insulation, flame behaviour and dimensional stability next to high-voltage conductors.

We start from the part: what it carries, how hot it runs, what it insulates and which flame or glow-wire test applies. Then we choose the family and the reinforcement.

  • Electrical insulation and dimensional stability near conductors
  • Flame retardance to your UL94 rating and thickness
  • Stiffness and creep resistance for structural frames
  • Heat resistance near motors and power electronics

Material routes for EV programmes

The families and reinforcements we propose for EV parts.

  • Glass-filled PA66 and PA6

OSAMIDE grades with up to 70% glass fibre, or up to 50% carbon fibre, for structural frames, brackets and cooling parts.

  • Semi-aromatic polyamide

OSAMIDE PA6T/6I with 35 to 70% glass fibre for busbar holders and e-motor parts under continuous heat.

  • PBT

OSABATE PBT up to 30% glass fibre, with flame-retardant versions, for HV connectors and power-electronics housings.

  • PP

OSALENE glass-filled and glass plus mineral PP for battery trays and covers.

  • PC/ABS and PC/PBT

OSAALLOY blends for charging inlets and housings that need toughness and a good surface.

  • Flame-retardant grades

Flame-retardant OSABATE PBT, OSALAC ABS and OSANATE PC. Tell us the UL94 rating and thickness you need.

Thermally conductive grades: development work

Thermally conductive compounds are development work for us, not part of our published grade list. If a housing or holder has to carry heat away from cells or electronics, we run it as a development project.

Tell us the conductivity target, the electrical insulation you need and the mechanical limits. We formulate trials on Line D, our 75 kg/hr line for R&D and small batches, and check mechanical and heat performance in our own laboratory.

  • Development formulations, not catalogue grades
  • Your conductivity and insulation targets set the formulation
  • Trials on Line D, 75 kg/hr, for R&D and small batches
  • Tensile, impact and HDT checks in our laboratory
  • 48-72 hTrial formulation
  • 70%Maximum glass fibre in OSAMIDE grades
  • 75 kg/hrLine D for R&D and small batches
  • 1,975 kg/hrNameplate capacity on four lines

From part to approved grade

How an EV part moves from enquiry to supply.

  1. 01

    Send the part

Drawing, current material, operating temperature, flame and insulation requirements, and annual volume.

  2. 02

    Starting grade

We propose a published grade or define a trial formulation.

  3. 03

    Trial in 48-72 hours

The trial formulation is compounded and tested in our laboratory.

  4. 04

    Samples and validation

You mould and test the samples to your plan, including UL94 or glow-wire where needed.

  5. 05

    Approval and supply

We support PPAP and material-specification conformance, then supply with a CoA for every lot.

EV compound questions

Which materials do you supply for EV parts?

Glass-filled PA66 and PA6, semi-aromatic PA6T/6I, PBT, PP, PC/ABS and PC/PBT, plus flame-retardant PBT, ABS and PC grades.

Can you meet a UL94 rating for battery and HV parts?

Tell us the UL94 rating and thickness you need. We formulate to it and supply samples for your certification testing. We do not claim UL listings.

Do you have thermally conductive grades?

Not as published grades. We treat them as development work: send the conductivity and insulation targets and we run trial formulations.

Can you match the orange used on high-voltage parts?

Yes. Send your colour standard and tolerance. We match it and check delta E with a spectrophotometer.

Where can I see EV parts in 3D?

Open the 3D vehicle explorer and choose the EV & electrical view. Each part shows the grade we would start with.

Which quality system stands behind EV programmes?

ISO 9001:2015 and ZED certification, ERP batch genealogy and a CoA with every lot. IATF 16949: gap assessment scheduled.
